Winter Safety Tips for Heating Your Apartment

We all want to stay warm and cozy this winter.. with Fall upon us Winter is just around the corner. A fire wouldn't be the way to start off the holiday season now would it? Here are a few things to remember this season.

Potential heating device hazards:

A space heater can help the space near you toasty warm, but it can't & shouldn't be used to heat your entire apartment. If you do make use of a space heater, make sure to take the following precautions:

• Plug into the wall directly - NO EXTENSION CORDS
• Position so that you don't have to worry about it being a trip hazard
• Be very careful about placing object too close  - keep NOTHING within 3 feet of it
• Not recommended if you have small children in the home, if so be prepared to play defense between them and the heater
• Unplug it any time you leave the room. Do Not Leave Unattended

A similar product which all love on a cold winter night is a electric blanket, again make sure to take the following precautions:

• Ensure that anyone who operates it knows how to do so correctly
• Don't put the blanket in the washing machine!
• Don't scrunch it up, sit on it or pile it up while it's on.
• Turn off when you are warm enough, if you ever see smoke from any part of the blanket - TURN OFF IMMEDIATELY
• Check the Consumer Product Safety Commissions website to avoid makes and models with known safety concerns

We are currently in the middle of our Renovation Celebration with many upgrades on interiors as well as the exteriors. We are loving the new landscaping and clubhouse!!! RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE ANYONE?

Alder Ridge Apartments is teaming up to help our community.

We have contacted the American Red Cross and would like to have our very own

community blood drive. We need at least 25 people to help so we can provide at least 25 productive units of blood to be a success! 5 people have already signed up....what are you waiting for?

Please stop in the office, reply to our blog, email or give us a call to sign up. You are welcome to invite your family and friends if they would be willing or like to participate.

We are unsure of a date at this point as we want to see if we will have enough participation!

Resident Event Suggestions/Feedback

Hey all! I am in the process of gearing up some ideas for resident events. Here are a few ideas we have so far:

Resident Referral contest - How many friends can you refer by the end of the year?? The catch to win the prize is they have to be approved and move in! ;o)

Costume contest for our kids

Grand - Re-opening  with 24/7 Fitness (including free self defense classes, smoothies and martial arts demonstrations!)

Blood drive for the local Red Cross

Host a pet adoption site

Host a party - if anyone knows any Mary Kay consultants, Pampered Chef, Book Club members, or anything cool like that have them contact the office and we may be able to host an evening for that ;o)

Resident Drive Thru breakfast

"Meet your Neighbors" get together

These are just a few thoughts for now... any questions, suggestions or ideas will be appreciated~
